Chicago Air and Water Show
Chicago's major public family entertainment event should not be turned over to military publicists, to recruiters financially motivated to deceive kids, and to radio/tv companies that pander to war culture and glorify amazing expensive weapons of terror, destruction, and mass killing!
A Chicago Tribune editor's perspective on the event, August 2014
The best times for our antiwar and anti-recruiter signs and conversations may be when hundreds of thousands of people, on their way home, jam the sidewalks near the pedestrian bridge. 2pm to 4pm Saturday, and 2pm to 4pm Sunday.
Public transit: Lakefront busses such as the North Avenue and the #151 may be extremely overpacked, even unboardable! At the beach area, display your signs as you walk to our traditional gathering place -- near the EAST END OF THE PEDESTRIAN FOOTBRIDGE over Lake Shore Drive [map .pdf].)
LAST YEAR'S SHOW WAS GREATLY DEMILITARIZED (thanks to the temporary U.S. military budget cuts). Millions enjoyed 2 days with only 1 fighter-bomber, and far fewer military recruiters working the crowds.
